Privacy Policy
Filaris is an Android file explorer developed by GM TECHNO (Gustavo Muñoz). This policy explains what the app does with your data. It is short because the app does little: there are no servers of ours to send anything to.
What we collect
Nothing. Filaris does not collect, store on any server of ours, or share personal information. Specifically:
- No accounts, no sign-up. We never ask for your email, phone number or name.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking identifiers.
- No automatic crash reporting.
- No third-party libraries that send data anywhere.
What the app does with your files
Filaris reads and writes the files on your device, because that is what a file explorer does. All of it happens on the device: neither file contents nor file names leave it, except in the case below, which you start yourself.
Transfers between your own devices
Filaris can share a folder over WiFi so you can move files between your phone and your computer, or between two phones. When you use that feature:
- The connection is direct between your devices, inside your local network. It does not go through any server of ours or anyone else's.
- It is encrypted with TLS, and each device records the other's certificate fingerprint the first time you pair them; if that fingerprint changes, the app warns you before going any further.
- The other device has to request access and you have to grant it, once per device. You can revoke it at any time.
- Only the folder you chose to share is visible, not the rest of the device.
While you are sharing, paired devices can see the name you gave your device. You choose that name in the app.
What is stored on your device
Only what the app needs in order to work, and only there:
- Your preferences (view, sort order, language, theme).
- The access you granted to other devices and their certificate fingerprints.
- Credentials for any network (SMB) folders you configured, encrypted with a key that lives in the Android keystore and never leaves it.
All of it is removed when you uninstall the app.
Permissions and why
- All files access (
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): a file explorer has to be able to see and modify any folder on the device, which is exactly what users expect from one. It is not used for anything else. - Internet, network state and WiFi state: to share folders inside your local network and to find the other devices. The app does not connect to the internet on its own.
- Notifications: to show transfer progress.
- Foreground service: so a long transfer does not get killed when you turn the screen off.
Children
Filaris is not directed at children under 13, and collects no data from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it and the new version is published at this same address.
